5th Grade Math: We continued to review division today. I am noticing that sometimes the 5th graders find it difficult to know which number comes first in a division problem. It is not always the largest number. For example if the problem says 3 divided by 9, it could also be 3/9. The students are getting this mixed up and sometimes writing 9/3. Tonight's homework is a worksheet with problems like these on it. The test will be on Friday.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Congrats to Skylie and Chase who both finished their 36th story today! They both earned a book to enjoy at home!

5th Grade Math: 5th Graders reviewed division and magnitude estimates today. We are continuing to learn the traditional way to do long division. Some of the students still struggle with this, and others think that it is an easier method. I want them to be exposed to different ways of dividing, and then they can chose which method they prefer. Magnitude estimates is how the 5th Graders estimate what place value their answer will be in when they are dividing. Their homework for tonight is to complete a division worksheet using both methods of division and also a worksheet on magnitude estimation.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Zach and Emily both earned prizes today! Zach finished his 42nd book and Emily completed her 30th! Keep up the excellent work both of you!!!

5th Grade Math: 5th Graders got a short lesson on long division today. I have noticed that some students were already using long division, so I am teaching them both methods and letting them chose which method they prefer to use. Long division is the traditional way of dividing. :) They do not have any division homework for tonight, but they will next week. Tonight, I want them to focus on rounding numbers. I have noticed that many of them know how to round, but they get confused when asked to round to a certain place value. Their homework is a worksheet, front and back, with numbers that they need to round. One side is rounding to the nearest whole number and the other side is rounding to the nearest tenth.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Kara finished her 18th story today and earned a piece of candy! Josh completed his 30th story and he earned a prize! Congrats to the both of you!!!
