5th Grade Math: I have graded all of the pages in their workbooks up to Unit 4, or page 98. I have noticed that some students are not completing all of their assigned pages. Some students have quite a few that are not completed. Any page that has "please finish" on the top means that I have graded that page, but they need to complete it in order to recieve a grade. I also allow students to redo any of the pages that they want to get a better grade for. All they have to do is turn back in their workbook with a sticky note on the pages that they have completed or revised, so I know which pages to look at. :)
Today we talked about supplementary angles and how they form a 180 degree angle, or a straight angle. We also learned how to find the missing angle(s) by knowing the supplementary angle. Homework tonight is a worksheet about supplementary angles. Students will need to find the missing angle measures.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Aiden earned a prize today after he finished his 18th story! Way to go Aiden!

5th Grade Math: The 5th graders were given a short quiz today and I did give them an extra copy to take home to give to their parents or siblings. I can't say what the quiz is about because it would give away all the answers! :) The students had fun taking it and I told them that I would give them extra credit for giving the quiz to someone they know. I did tell them not to give it to anyone younger than them. They also have to complete the Math Boxes on pages 97 & 98 in their workbooks.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Three students earned books today! Skylie, Kailyn, & Greta all finished their 24th story earning them their second book so far this year! Way to go girls!

5th Grade Math: Today we learned about our Geometry Template and some of the different shapes that are on it. Students learned how to put some of the shapes together to make new shapes and also how to make interesting pictures with their template. This was not hard for most of them because they have been doing this all year in their spare time. :) Homework for tonight is pages 93, 94, 95, and 96 in their workbook. The instructions for these pages is on page 92. I am not expecting students to complete every single problem on these pages. Page 93 and 95 each has 5 problems, and I expect students to complete at least 3 of them on each page. They can put their answers on page 94 and 96.
4th Grade REWARDS: This week we learned about the /ea/ sound. Students learned to first try to say /ea/ like in meat. If that doesn't make a real word, they then try /ea/ like in thread. We also reviewed prefixes and suffixes. Students are getting better at decoding words!
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Evan finished his 24th story today earning him a book to take home! Congratulations!

5th Grade Math: 5th graders reviewed how many degrees are in a triangle, circle, and how to find the degrees for any kind of shape using the amount of sides it has. Many students were very confused by this, but I spent a great deal of time with it today, so they should know it. :) We also reviewed expanded notation and standard form for writing numbers. The homework for tonight is page 90 and 91 in the workbook.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Tyler earned a book today after completing his 24th story! Cierra and Emily both finished their 18th story, earning them a prize! Keep up the amazing work!

5th Grade Math: Today we talked about how to find the sum of angles in different types of polygons. We found out that all we have to do is subtract 2 from the number of sides a shape has and multiply that number by 180. For example, a hexagon has six sides. If we subtract 6-2, it equals 4. 4 x 180= 720, so if we add all the angles together in a hexagon, it would equal 720 degrees. Students need to use this knowledge to complete the workbook pages assigned. They need to finish pages 88 & 89 for homework tonight. I also still need some tessellation projects from some students, so they need to work on that as well if they have not turned it in. I am taking off 10 percent points per day that it is late.

5th Grade Math: Remember that the tessellation project is due on Monday. I looked at all of what the students had done so far and we talked about any mistakes that they might have made. Not only to I want the shapes to tessellate, or repeat, but the colors as well. I also expect students to use at least 3 different colors on their tessellations. They also need to complete workbook pages 85 and 86, which we did together in class, so they should have this completed already.

5th Grade Math: Today we talked about tessellations a little more and students were given a project to work on about tessellations. They are making their own tessellations with grid paper that I provided for them. They are to make a tessellation on the sheet of paper with no white space remaining on the page. I expect students to use at least 3 colors on their tessellation. The finished products will go up on the wall in our classroom, so I want to see students using their best coloring! Neatness counts as part of the grade! :) This project is due Monday, January 23rd. Also for homework tonight that is due tomorrow is page 84 in their workbooks.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Students are still reading their stories and trying to beat their goals. Today Joe earned his 2nd book after he finished his 24th story! Wow, 24 books already! Also, Kyrsten earned candy after finishing her 18th book! Congratulations to both of you!

5th Grade Math: We continued to review polygons today and their properties. Students learned that a regular polygon is a polygon that has equal sides and equal angle measures. For their homework, they need to figure out if each regular polygon is able to tessellate, or repeat itself, without any gaps. They seemed to be very familiar with tessellations, but some of them struggled with using their template to make their own tessellation. Their Math homework for tonight is to complete workbook pages 81-83.
2nd and 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Charlotte completed her 12th story today earning her a book to take home! This was the first book that she earned, so she was really excited! :)

5th Grade Math: All of the students have been really excited to start using their templates and today was the day that we started using them! We briefly went over how to use the protractor that is on their templates. They have used them before, but some of them are a little bit rusty on where to put their protractor and what numbers to use. Their homework for tonight is to complete pages 68 and 69 in their workbook. Tomorrow I will explain how to use the protractor again and have them remeasure the angles from tonight's homework.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: We have another student that earned a prize today, Kendal! She finished her 18th story and picked out a prize! :)

5th Grade Math: Today we started talking about angle measure. We are starting to find the measure of angles by imagining it as the middle point of a circle. We learned that a circle has 360 degrees. Using that information, we can find the measurement of an angle. Students are to complete pages 66 and 67 for homework.
4th Grade REWARDS: This past week we have been focusing on the different sound of g when it is followed by an e, i, or y, and vowel combinations that have more than one sound. When g is followed by an e, i, or y, it makes a /j/ sound. For example, ginger. Our goal is that the kids will use these strategies when they come to a word they don't know. :)
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Today Chase completed his 18th book earning him a prize! Congratulations!

5th Grade Math: We concluded our lessons about the U.S. Census today and reviewed open number sentences. An open number sentence is a math sentence that contains a variable. For example: 4 + 3 = a. For homework, students have to complete pages 64 & 65 in their workbooks. One page is reading story problems and writing an open number sentence that goes along with the story. The other is Math Boxes. Everything that I have assigned them is a review, so they should not have too much difficulty finishing them. We also went over every problem as a class today.
2nd & 3rd Grade Read Naturally: Congrats to Skylie who finished her 18th story today! She earned a prize to take home with her.
